‘’My ultimate aim is to positively affect the lives of as many people as possible and I am hoping to use coaching as a mechanism for this.’’

Coaching is something I find extremely rewarding and is more than just a job. I believe that you should provide a good example to the athlete in terms of your own behaviors. The behaviors I think are important and my coaching philosophies are listed below:

Timings and organisation- I believe firmly that as a minimum, individuals should be able to keep to time and be organised in meeting their objectives. This is not always easy however I believe this is crucial to being effective at any activity.

Good planning with clear objectives- I endeavor through my programs to plan specifically for your needs with a long-term goal insight. Establishing a clear objective is the starting point to any of my programs and each element of the program should have merit and a sound rationale.

Desire and discipline- I believe that you will always be limited unless you are truly self-motivated. Whilst I aim to encourage and help where possible unless the goal’s set have personal significance, they may never be realised. I care deeply about my work and am happy to give as I can to those I feel are equally dedicated.

S&C Philosophy

Exercise Selection

It is my belief that exercises can be selected with the following three objectives:

1.            Physiological capacity approach: Force development, Power Development, Aerobic Endurance.

2.            Movement quality approach: Coordination of the body to develop a specific skill (e.g. running drills).

3.            Structural development approach: Hypertrophy, Mobility.

For me the role of the technical coach is to select exercises

primarily for skill development. Therefore, as an S & C coach the primary goal is to either develop a physiological capacity or to affect structural change on the athlete’s body. Once I have established which quality I am looking to develop, I will then examine how to achieve this with as much specificity as possible.

Technique

Technique is a very important part of my philosophy and helps to establish the specific transfer we are looking for. Due to this, I encourage video exchanges where possible if personal visits are not achievable. Additionally I believe sound foundations are necessary before progressing onto more complicated exercise variations.

Background

My background in strength and conditioning was formed at the University of Liverpool where I began my career as the strength and conditioning coach for the rugby union side. Since then, I moved on to lead the program for the University and worked with a huge variety of sports and athletes from combat sports to equestrians. Currently I am based in London where I work as the lead S&C coach for the Great Britain sitting volleyball side and with London Broncos academy.
